Janet Farmer  BSc (Hons) Agriculture (London)

Janet Farmer
Janet left the Canadian High Commission in January 2013 to pursue her interests as an independent consultant, following twenty-five years as agriculture, agri-food and seafood Trade Commissioner. Janet has an excellent knowledge of Canada's agriculture, agri-food and seafood industries and has visited all ten Provinces. During her time at the High Commission she worked closely with the Canadian industry and Government on trade development as well as policy and market access issues. As Trade Commissioner she was a regular visitor to Canada, including speaking on the UK agriculture, agri-food and seafood market at conferences and accompanying UK buyers.

In addition to her core work of assisting individual Canadian companies to develop business in the UK, she organised industry and government missions to learn from UK experience on a wide range of topics ranging from aquaculture development to the control of Foot and Mouth disease.

Janet was awarded the Canadian Minister of International Trade's award for individual excellence in 2007 in recognition of her services to the Canadian agri-food and seafood sectors.

Having grown up on a small farm herself, she has a particular empathy with SMEs. Prior to joining the Canadian High Commission, Janet had personal experience of exporting when working for a UK SME, an agricultural consulting and exporting company specialising in livestock development. Clients included national governments and international funding agencies as well as the private sector.

Post-university Janet worked as a volunteer on an OXFAM-funded rural development project in Zambia.
Outside of work, Janet is an accomplished duathlon and triathlon competitor, one of the fastest in the world in her age group and has competed around the world. She is also an avid bird watcher.

CanadaUK Partners is delighted to have Janet Farmer's expertise available to its clients.
